Even if you can’t get to the beach this summer, you can still bring the beach to you with this fun and creative summer craft project. Here’s how to make a beachy keen diorama in just a few simple steps, using an empty Martinelli’s Apple Juice Bottle.
Step 1: Clean
Enjoy a refreshing bottle of 10 oz. Martinelli’s Apple Juice in a glass bottle. Then rinse the bottle and let dry fully.
Step 2: Paint
Start by painting the entire apple juice bottle white to create a clean canvas for your colorful beach ball. Once the paint has dried, paint a variety of colorful vertical stripes.
Step 3: Cut
To create your umbrella, use an X-acto knife or scissors to cut 7 triangles of colored foam paper, each with a 45° angle. Then cut a shallow arc at the bottom of each piece. Finally, cut a small foam circle to act as the top of the umbrella.
Step 4: Glue
Place all 7 foam pieces in a circle on a flat surface, with the tip of each triangle touching in the center. Hot glue the small circular foam piece at the intersection of the tips. Once the glue has dried, glue each side together to create a cone shape that will make up your umbrella. Finally, glue a popsicle stick at the inside center of the cone to act as your umbrella stand.
Step 5: Create Your Backdrop
Use your paints and a sheet of cardboard to create your summer sky backdrop, then prop it upright. Sprinkle Play Sand on another cardboard sheet lying flat in front, and position your beach ball and umbrella on top. Use your imagination to create other fun miniature items to complete your summery scene. (Tip: Try coating a sewing thimble in craft glue and rolling it in sand to create a small pail-shaped mound.) Don’t forget to photograph your project and post it on social media!
